&lt;p&gt;&lt;span class="userContent"&gt;Surprisingly large amounts of discarded trash end up in the ocean. Scientists and technicians work together to optimize data collection as we investigate the basic chemistry of the ocean. This sort of data is fundamental to the better understanding of the many phenomena observed.&lt;/p&gt;
